Skin tags tend to develop on various parts of our bodies as we age. Skin Tags can be found of the eyes, face neck or back and are unsightly and can catch on your clothes and jewellery.
Dr Charlson is experienced in preforming minor skin surgery attends training courses in minor surgery, most lesions are superficial and may be removed with minimal scarring.
Skin tags can be removed easily with a variety of techniques such as radiolaze or cryotherapy but can also be removed by simple skin surgery which is usually painless and requires no stitches as skin tags tend to be superficial.
Anyone can develop skin tags, but they’re particularly common in older people and people with diabetes. Pregnant women may be more likely to develop skin tags, caused by changes in their hormone levels. Some people develop them for no apparent reason.
Skin tags tend to grow where skin rubs against skin or clothing. This would explain why they also tend to affect overweight people or younger children who have excess folds of skin and skin chafing.
When skin tags can be a problem
Skin tags are harmless and don’t usually cause pain or discomfort.
However, you may want to consider getting them removed if they are unsightly and affect your self-esteem, or if they snag on clothing or jewellery and bleed. You’ll usually need to pay for this procedure privately. This is because the removal of skin tags is regarded as cosmetic surgery not on the NHS.
Other lesions that may also be removed by minor surgery are warts, verrucae, seborrhic warts, moles, intradermal naevi and age spots.
The cost of skin tag removal starts from £100 and depends on the number and size of lesions that need to be removed.
