Dr Paul Charlson administers a second Profhilo treatment, discussing the benefits of Profhilo with the client.
Profhilo is a unique collagen remodeleling
“Injectable moisture treatments and dermal fillers are both made of hyaluronic acid (HA) which is a natural component of human skin. HA is a water-binding molecule that can hold 10,000 times its weight in water and as we get older, our bodies produce less and less of it. Profhilo, he explains, “is pure hyaluronic acid in high quantities and will bio-remodel collagen and elastin while hydrating the skin.” It’s ‘anti-ageing’ on multiple levels, but – as noted above – it will not help hydrate skin on the forehead where people can find frown lines problematic.

“HA is made up of long chains, similar to spaghetti, and each draws and holds water. In dermal fillers the spaghetti is modified slightly and ‘cooked’ (cross linked) so that it clumps together and stays put where it’s injected to create volume. With injectable moisturiser treatments, the hyaluronic acid spaghetti is slightly ‘cooked’ so that it spreads evenly throughout the face to draw water along the way – this will hydrate the skin but not volumise it and leads to a healthy dewy texture.”
