Aqualyx fat dissolving injections
What is Aqualyx?
Aqualyx is an injectable solution that dissolves small pockets of unwanted fat. It’s not yet approved by the FDA for use in the U.S. but is widely used in Europe. It’s primarily intended to treat a double chins and smaller areas of resistant fat.
How many Aqualyx treatments do most people need?
The treatment, sometimes called Aqualysis or Aquaplasty, takes 30 to 60 minutes per session, and you’ll likely need multiple sessions to see noticeable fat reduction. The number of recommended sessions typically depends on the area being treated. While small fat pockets on the neck or chin may require only two or three sessions, larger areas, like the thighs, may require up to eight.
What happens during an Aqualyx treatment?
Before treatment, you’ll be given a local anesthetic, such as lidocaine, to minimize discomfort. Then your provider will make a series of injections—typically 20 to 50 across the treatment area, depending on the size of the area and amount of fullness. Some people describe the treatment as uncomfortable, but it shouldn’t be too painful.
Afterward, you can expect swelling, tenderness, or light bruising. These side effects typically resolve within a few days to a week. The swelling can be noticeable, especially under the chin where it’s harder to hide, but you can expect to return to your daily routine quickly. If your face or neck was treated, avoid makeup and use only a gentle cleanser for at least 12 hours, to prevent further irritation.
Once the fat cells have been liquefied, your body will metabolize and eliminate them.
